Hugo Saves Christmas (international title) is a PC-only game developed and published by ITE Media in 1998. It is the second of Hugo Christmas special games ("Wintergames"), the other ones being Winter Games and Hugo: Scylla's Revenge.
The game was released in Denmark as Hugo Redder Julen, in Germany as Hugo rettet das Weihnachtsfest, in Argentine as Hugo salva la Navidad, and in Russia as Кузя спасает Рождество. It was re-released as part of Trollbox 1 (packaged together with Hugo 5 and Stinky & Biber) in 2000.
Plot[]
Christmas is around the corner. Hugo and his old friend, Santa Claus, are busy with the preparations. The evil witch Scylla is determined to stop Santa and spoil the Christmas time for all the children looking forward to it. One night, when Santa drives Hugo in his flying reindeer sleigh, Scylla attacks and kidnaps him. She carries him away to her castle and locks him in the deepest and darkest dungeon.
But Hugo is determined to free Santa and help the children have a nice Christmas time, and he enter's the witch's gloomy den. Before Christmas, Hugo has to pass a new adventure every day, making the place more and more Christmas spirited, as Scylla watches his progress through her crystal ball. To help him not lose his heart, every day Santa reads a new chapter in his Christmas story. After he finally frees Santa, Hugo confronts the witch as she attacks him with magic from the top of her castle, and if he wins the fight she falls down from a tower and Santa departs on his way.
Gameplay[]
Hugo needs to complete 24 simple and themed minigames, one for each day of December 1-24, usually of a puzzle variety. The first and last (boss battle) of them are based around throwing Snowballs on targets.
