Ropes

Ropes (or Rope) is an endgame scenario introduced in the TV show Eleva2ren  in 1991. Ropes was first featured in a video game in Hugo på nye Eventyr and since then appeared in many of the classic and compilation games, including Hugo 3, Hugo 4, Hugo 5, Hugo 6, Hugo PSX, Hugo XL, Hugo Gold, and Hugo Platin.

It was also remade as a part of Hugo Retro Mania and Hugo's Adventure, and has made appearances in different versions in the book Cadı Sila'ya Karşı and in the TV series Alletiders Jul.

Gameplay[]

TV / games[]

Amiga Ropes

After Hugo arrives in the evil witch Scylla's skull cave lair and finds his kidnapped wife Hugolina and their kids in a cage, alongside Scylla herself, who continues her taunts. Finally face-to-face with his enemy, Hugo needs to pull one of three ropes to defeat her and win.

  • If the rope is chosen wrong, Hugo is magically bound and then ejected out of the cave from a spring-loading device.
  • If the rope is chosen right, Hugo's family will be released. The bonus depends on Scylla's fate, as she is either transformed from her beautiful form into an ugly old crone (1010 bonus points), turns herself into a bird and escapes (1004 bonus points), or in the best outcome she is herself tried up and placed on the ejector to be shot out of the cave (2026 bonus points).

Retro Mania[]

Retro Mania Ropes

The remake version features four ropes (instead of just three) at the end of its version of the Labyrinth scenario.

  • If Hugo choses wrong, he suffers from one of the standard death scenes from the game, such as being snatched away by a huge spider or crushed by a rock.
  • If he chooses right, the witch vanishes in a cloud of smoke and so is the cage, freeing the family.

Hugo's Adventure[]

HA ropes

This variant of the scenario involves two choices to defeat Scylla's henchman Don Croco in an underwater fortress (causing an anchor to fall on either him or on Hugo).
